Significance of Makar Sankranti..The Uttarayan journey

Introduction of Makar Sankranti:

Makar Sankranti is one of the most auspicious day for the Hindus, and is celebrated in almost all parts of the country in myriad cultural forms, with great devotion, fervor & gaiety. Lakhs of people take a dip in places like Ganga Sagar & Prayag and pray to Lord Sun. It is celebrated with pomp in southern parts of the country as Pongal, and in Punjab is celebrated as Lohri & Maghi. Gujarati's not only look reverentially up to the sun, but also offer thousands of their colorful oblations in the form of beautiful kites all over the skyline. They may be trying to reach upto their glorious God or bring about greater proximity with the one who represents the best. It is a day for which Bhishma Pitamah kept waiting to leave his mortal coil.

Makar Sankranti is the day when the glorious Sun-God of Hindus begins its ascendancy and entry into the Northern Hemisphere. Sun for the Hindus stands for Pratyaksha-Brahman - the manifest God, who symbolizes, the one, non-dual, self-effulgent, glorious divinity blessing one & all tirelessly. Sun is the one who transcends time and also the one who rotates the proverbial Wheel of Time. The famous Gayatri Mantra, which is chanted everyday by every faithful Hindu, is directed to Sun God to bless them with intelligence & wisdom. Sun not only represents God but also stands for an embodiment of knowledge & wisdom. Lord Krishna reveals in Gita that this manifested divinity was his first disciple, and we all know it to be indeed a worthy one too. No Sundays for the Sun, may be because one who revels in its very 'being', the very essence of his own Self, is always in the Sunday mood.

The co-relation of cosmic events with individual life and values is one of the most astounding traits of Hindu Masters. Once this co-relation is brought about thereafter these cosmic events become instrumental to remind us the best which we cherish & value. Of all the cosmic bodies Sun is the most glorious & important, thus every sun-centric cosmic event became very important spiritual, religious & cultural events. On Makar Sankranti day the Sun begins its ascendancy and journey into the Northern Hemisphere, and thus it signifies an event wherein the Gods seem to remind their children that 'Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya'. May you go higher & higher - to more & more Light and never to darkness.

Astrological Significance:

Makar means Capricorn and Sankranti is transition. There is a sankranti every month when the sun passes from one sign of the zodiac to the next. There are twelve signs of the zodiac, and thus there are twelve sankranti's as well. Each of these sankranti's has its own relative importance but two of these are more important - the Mesh (Aries) Sankranti and the most important, the Makar (Capricorn) Sankranti. Transition of the Sun from Sagittarius to Capricorn, during the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere is known as Makar Sankranti. From this day begins the six-month long Uttarayana, considered very auspicious for attaining higher worlds hereafter. While the traditional Indian Calendar is basically based on lunar positions, but sankranti is a solar event, so while dates of all festivals keep changing, the english calendar date of Makar Sankranti is always same, 14th January. Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the Hindu Calendar month of Magha. There is another significance of this day, after this day the days start becoming longer & warmer, and thus the chill of winter in on decline.

Religious Significance:

1. The Puranas say that on this day Sun visits the house of his son Shani, who is the swami of Makar Rashi. These father & son do not ordinarily get along nicely, but inspite of any difference between each other Lord Sun makes it a point to meet each other on this day. Father in fact himself comes to his son's house, for a month. This day symbolized the importance of special relationship of father & son. It is the son who has the responsibility to carry forward his fathers dream and the continuity of the family.

2. From Uttarayana starts the 'day' of Devatas, while dakshinayana is said to be the 'night' of devatas, so most of the auspicious things are done during this time. Uttarayana is also called as Devayana, and the next half is called Pitrayana.

3. It was on this day when Lord Vishnu ended the ever increasing terrorism of the Asuras by finishing them off and burying their heads under the Mandar Parvat. So this occasion also represents the end of negativities and beginning of an era of righteous living.

4. The great savior of his ancestors, Maharaj Bhagirath, did great Tapasya to bring Gangaji down on the earth for the redemption of 60,000 sons of Maharaj Sagar, who were burnt to ashes at the Kapil Muni Ashram, near the present day Ganga Sagar. It was on this day that Bhagirath finally did tarpan with the Ganges water for his unfortunate ancestors and thereby liberated them from the curse. After visiting the Patala for the redemption of the curse of Bhagirath's ancestors Gangaji finally merged in the Sagar. Even today a very big Ganga Sagar Mela is organized every year on this day at the confluence of River Ganges and the Bay of Bengal. Lakhs take dip in the water and do tarpan for their ancestors.

We salute such a great devotee & benefactor of his ancestors. One who can express such gratitude to his ancestors, work with tireless resolve to redeem the pride, pledges & resolves of his forefathers, alone possess a personality, which the history reveals to be a true benefactor of the world too. A person who has severed his own roots gets soon rooted out in the flow of time. Moral of the story is to see to it that the roots of the tree of 'our' life are not only intact but nourished well, thereafter alone the tree blooms & flourishes.

There is another spiritually symbolic aspect of this story. The 60,000 cursed son of Maharaj Sagar represent our thoughts, who become dull & dead-like because of uncultured & blind ambition. Redemption of such people is only by the waters of Gangaji, brought down 'to' & later 'from' the Himalayas with great tapasya. This represents dedicated hard work to get the redeeming Brahma-Vidya, which alone enlightens, enthuses & enlivens the life of anyone.

5. Another well-known reference of this day came when the great grandsire of Mahabharata fame, Bhishma, declared his intent to leave his mortal coil on this day. He had the boon of Ichha-Mrityu from his father, so he kept lying on the bed of arrows till this day and then left his mortal coil on Makar Sankranti day. It is believed that the person, who dies during the period of Uttarayana, becomes free from transmigration. So this day was seen as a sure-shot Good Luck day to start your journey or endeavors to the higher realms beyond.

Culture & Festivities:

This festival is celebrated differently in different parts of the country.

Uttar Pradesh:

In Uttar Pradesh, Sankrant is called 'Khichiri'. Taking a dip in the holy rivers on this day is regarded as most auspicious. A big one-month long 'Magha-Mela' fair begins at Prayag (Allahabad) on this occasion. Apart from Triveni, ritual bathing also takes place at many places like Haridvar and Garh Mukteshwar in Uttar Pradesh, and Patna in Bihar.

Bengal:

In Bengal every year a very big Mela is held at Ganga Sagar where the river Ganga is believed to have dived into the nether region and vivified the ashes of the sixty thousand ancestors of King Bhagirath. This mela is attended by a large number of pilgrims from all over the country.

Tamil Nadu:

In Tamil Nadu Sankrant is known by the name of 'Pongal', which takes its name from the surging of rice boiled in a pot of milk, and this festival has more significance than even Diwali. While exchanging tilguls as tokens of goodwill people greet each other saying – 'til-gul ghya, god god bola' meaning 'accept these tilguls and speak sweet words'. The under-lying thought in the exchange of tilguls is to forget the past ill-feelings and hostilities and resolve to speak sweetly and remain friends.

This is a special day for the women in Maharashtra when married women are invited for a get-together called 'Haldi-Kumkum' and given gifts of any utensil, which the woman of the house purchases on that day.

Gujarat:

In Gujarat Sankrant is observed more or less in the same manner as in Maharashtra but with a difference that in Gujarat there is a custom of giving gifts to relatives. The elders in the family give gifts to the younger members of the family. The Gujarati Pundits on this auspicious day grant scholarships to students for higher studies in astrology and philosophy. This festival thus helps the maintenance of social relationships within the family, caste and community.

Be a fraudstar: Govt will bail u out??

Bailing option for Satyam always open, a statement made by our commerce minister is ridiculous.

Mr Minister , can you please tell the nation what are you doing for the hundreds and thousands of workers who lost their job recently due to recession hit of the west. It do not bother you because there is no hue and cry for the people who lost their job.

You are much concerned with the employee of Satyam who are earning in lakhs and wants to bail out with taxpayers money.

If you really want to do something , first freeze the bank balance of Mr Raju and associates and recover money by selling all the assets of Mr Raju and try to bail the satyam employees by that money. Try to seize every bank balance of independent directors, auditors, consultants and all the big guns involved and recover money ...Do you have guts to do so??

In India corporate fraud are a common thing and I am completely surprised when I find that the conviction rate in corporate frauds is only 5%. Shame on you..and your machinery.

It clearly implies the nexus between political parties and the corporates who fund heavily for their election. Dont shed crocodile tears for the employees.

Mr prime minister , I request you to please consider this matter seriously and before bail out a tainted corporation, do think of us, we taxpayers.

In my point of view, Raju mwas made a scapegoat and the story he was narrating completely false. There might be a dangerous nexus and it should be probed barethread and the culprits must be brought to book in quick time if the govt wants to showcase its good governance.

ALL about CCS..Carbon Capture and Storage

http://www.mckinseyquarterly.com/What_is_carbon_capture_and_storage_2247?pagenum=1

Should Govt. bail out Satyam??

Government has appointed 3 powerful persons to board of independent director of Satyam. Kiran Karnik, Deepak Parekh and C Achutan , all are renowned persons and are from different fields.

After they assume charge, the two top most target in their minds are:

  1. retaining the customers and take them into confidence
  2. Arranging funds for its operations
To retain customers, the board will make sure that it communicate with customers and make them believe that the company is committed and will definitely give their hundred percent to complete the project in right perspective.

But the big question is that how they will arrange funds for the operations. The board has indicated that they are thinking of a possible merger with another company or ready to be taken over by another company.

The government has already given a hint that it will bail out Satyam if necessary. Now the big question is that is bailout necessary or is it the right way to bailout a tainted company with tax payers money.

While looking into the bailout package, govt should look into other industry which have been struggling with global recession. The textile industry, gems and jewellery and most of the export oriented business are going into severe losses as funding from overseas stops due to financial meltdown in the west.

This seems to make no news as there is no one to hear their story but the software company and its employees who are earning lakhs of rupees could not bear the burnt and govt shows its eagerness to bail out the company and its employees.

Government should find other alternatives but should not think of wasting public money for this kind of situation.

My letter to Mr Advaniji: the PM on waiting

Dear Mr Advaniji,

I am a great supporter of you but the recent downgrade of our great ideological politics hunts me most. Politicians rake in small issues and make it seems a grand political issue.May it be religion, strike, any company affairs, sports, culture and what not. It seems that in each sphere of life there is an issue related to politics and people tend to take mileage out of it.

I would suggest, rather blowing the issues in air, why dont parties make a straight forward policy on issues and try to market that among the masses. They only chip in when suddenly something happens and take the ruling party responsible for one and all.

I think people are smart enough to take decisions by their own and they wont buy the empty rhetoric of politicians.

Please make sure that before going to the polls BJP must have some definite policies for the party and the country on several issues like energy, water, education, development, conversion, industries etc etc so that while in public they must not falter and only try to highlight the policies at large and asks for vote.

Make sure that terrorism and conversion, article 370, common civil code along with sustainable development (Bijli,Pani and Sadak) be a part of your exhaustive policy to transform India.

Crux of Satyam Scam..

Q: What was the purpose of the scam?

A: Rather like item numbers in Indian films, Satyam’s fancy numbers were aimed at sexing up the company and making it more attractive for investors. Raju pointed out that given the low promoter holding in the company (8.6% as of September 2008), poor performance could result in a take-over . It was important, therefore, to make it seem as if both the top and bottom lines were growing at a healthy rate, even if that was not actually true.

Q: How did it build up to such proportions?

A: The problem with overstating performance is that if you want to keep growth rate looking good, the absolute extent of the exaggeration has to keep getting bigger. To take this particular example, in 2003-04 Satyam reported net sales of Rs 2,542 crore. In the four years since then, that figure was reported to have grown by 36%, 34%, 40% and 31% respectively to reach Rs 8,473 crore in 2007-08.

Now, if a Rs 2,500-crore company wants to show 35% growth when it has actually grown by only say 25%, the extent of overstatement would be only Rs 250 crore (10% of Rs 2,500 crore). But if a Rs 8,500-crore company wants to do the same thing, it will have to fudge the figures by Rs 850 crore.

It is also important to realise that overstating revenues by 10% can overstate profit by a lot more. For instance, if actual revenues are Rs 2,000 crore and actual net profits Rs 200 crore, an addition of Rs 500 crore to revenues without changing anything else would also add Rs 500 crore to net profit. While this would mean exaggerating revenues by only 25%, the profit figure would get overstated by 250% (500 cr is two-and-a-half times 200 crore).

Q: How was Satyam’s proposed acquisition of Maytas linked to this scam?

A: Maytas, a real estate firm owned by Raju’s family, was proposed to be bought by Satyam for about Rs 6,400 cr and turned into a whollyowned subsidiary of Satyam. Raju has pointed out that this would have helped clean up the Satyam mess. Since Satyam would have to pay Maytas owners (the Raju family) for its shares, on paper Rs 6,400 crore would have moved out of Satyams books into the Raju family’s hands, while Satyam would have gained Maytas shares. This could have been an excellent way of regularizing the pumping up of numbers.

Here is how. One, the payment would have actually become just a formality with the Raju family technically receiving Rs 6,400 crore.

But, with Satyam’s reserves and surplus having already been depleted (or, conversely, inflated) the Raju family would have got much less. But, obviously, they would not have complained. Two, this would have then given the company a legitimate opportunity through an acquisition — to bring down the reserves to its actual level without admitting that the books had been cooked. And, nobody would have been any the wiser since only the Raju family and their close confidantes would know about this.

Thus, while Satyam’s reserves would apparently have been used up to pay for the acquisition, in reality the non-existent reserves would be passed on to the Raju family. And Maytas would have found a new home. The furore over what most people perceived as a blatant overvaluation of Maytas prevented the proposed merger going through, thus closing out an opportunity for Raju to paper over the bungling in Satyam.

Strike by trucker association and oil executives add salt to injury for Indian economy

The strike by agitated trucker association compounded with the executives of oil PSUs add salt to injury for the Indian Economy. Pumps all over the country went short of fuel and the long line in the oil pumps are visible everywhere.

The dialogue failed between the minister and the executives and states imposed ESMA to counter the agitation.

But kudos to the step taken by the central government to ease the matter as it threatened the executives to resume work or face strong actions. The govt even sought help from the military to resume the supply.

Delhi is under severe pressure as gas supply to 2 of its gas based units curtailed. If situation does not improve, it is feared that there will be no more fuel to run the public transport system as well. the prices of vegetable shoot up due to truckers strike and the situation aggravated because of adamant nature of oil executives.

They are demanding for a pay hike as compared to their senior counterparts in 6th pay commission.

The question arises :" is it the only way to press the government to listen to their demand by jeopardising the common public at large??

Obviously NO. We pay to the government in form of taxes and to face situation like this is quite illogical.

Though I strongly believe that government should create a bench mark for salary distribution and even the private companies must be brought under some kind of regulation regarding the pay structure.

Why dont India take the other way around like what the Japan system is. They produce more in order to show their anger against the government or any company.

But in India strike by Unions in any of the form not only a major setback to the economy but indirectly the cost of people suffering out of these strike is huge. No one calculates this invisible cost of sufferings.

There must be some other way around to show the reservation against any judgement but obviously not the strike.

Satyam Saga: No Satya only Mithya..

Can you imagine, Rs 7000 crore scam for a company, for a brand valued and positioned high among investors.

Its clear now that Raju was not a gentleman. New name coined for this whole saga " Enron of India"

The role and credibilty of the auditor , advisor all at stake.

Chor machaye Shor:

Ramalinga Raju, chairman of Satyam Computers resigned from his post and confessed to indulging in fraudulent activities like inflating the books for several years. Raju has written a letter to the board giving details of the balance sheet. Balance Sheet has inflated cash balances of Rs 5040 crore and accrued interest of Rs 376 crore is non-existent. Rs 1230 crore was arranged to Satyam and is not reflected in the books. As per the revelations, second Quarter numbers were inflated to Rs 2700 crore vs Rs 2112 crore actual numbers. According to letter of Mr. Raju to the Board of Directors, with copies to Public Authorities, No board member had any knowledge of the real situation of the books. From this it is amply clear that the management of the Big Corporate Compnies are governed at the dictate of the so-called Owners of the Compnaies, and Shareholders are just silent spectators to see the effcet of the same.

How do frauds like that of Satyam happen / remain hidden for so long?

For such a unprecedented scam of Rs.7,000 Crores as flashed by TV Channels, can we believe that only Ramalinga Raju is responsible individually or the entire system should be made responsible. We learn nothing from our past. Harshad Mehta scam was also unprecedented till then. This shows that our Corporate System is working with any accountability, because they are allowed to hide anything on the alleged pretext of the commercial confidence, trade secret etc., without defining that what should be covered within the meaning of the commercial confidence, trade secret etc.

whom to believe now?? Now may be all IT companies will be coming under scanner and the credibility of IT industry as a whole will be a question mark.

RTI - A missile on common man's arms

What a beautiful act this is. right to information covers one and all in government establishment. U can sought any information from any government offices about anything. There are systematic procedures to get all the information.

But people need to be aware about the act and use it judiciously to work against the system and corruption.

We need to be a self styled RTI activist and make people aware about the act and help them getting the information from the government coffers.

Democracy is for the people, of the people and by the people. Every one has a right to ask question and the public servant is bound to answer. We should pin point and target the corrupted officials and try to bring the truth.

Make RTI a revolution and be a RTI activist to serve the people and serve the nation.

English Calender 2009 begins..

I dont know the frenzy about the new year's eve. people seem to be very very happy welcoming the new year but to why. Is there any logic behind it or this is just one of the madness created by the western society. We Indians really are living in a dangerous society. the society is changing very quickly and the effect u can feel in metros. People line up the list of itinerary in the eve of 2009 celebration.

The beer manufacturer has their fingers crossed for this day as they very well know that this is the night they are going to make hay ward selling courtesy the youths of the city. People spend like anything but they forget this is Just Another Day but the irony is that no one remembers the India New year.

I am not a hard core right activist but this definitely hurts me. People tend to forget the Vedas, Ramayan, The Mahabharat but they now remembers the pop singers, dancers, the film stars.

Wishing late at night and the wish saga continues for some days. Ok let people enjoy the day, not a problem but please dont forget your ancestors or calender year. If not celebrate it but just bear in mind that this is the Bharatiya new year.

INSAC08, Mumbai Trip and attack on India

I was too happy to board the Indigo flight from delhi airport to Mumbai as this was my first air trip, so excited about flying in the sky.Well dressed people, business managers , wealthy families generally board the aeroplane. The crew members were also too good , well trained in their behaviour and serving customers.Anyways the flight took off from Delhi airport at around 7.00AM.Just before lending at the mumbai CST I felt tremandous pressure. My head got completely out because of pressure difference and for almost 15 minutes i could not bear the pain.Horrible!!!!

Anyways lended at Mumbai airport at 9.30AM, straightway headed towards NPCIL auditorium where I had to attend the INSAC 2008, a nuclear conference organised by India Nuclear Society.

The conference saw some high profile policy makers, scientists, professors, delegations from Japan and France and different utilities in nuclear sector. The 3 day conference ended in a brilliant note with some brain storming issues. The conference highlighted basically the technical issues. I got Mr Mohd. Ansari a senior engineer from tarapur nuclear facility as my room partner in NBH guest house.he was so nice and charming person.Enjoyed his company there and exchanged thoughts on different issues.

On 25th night , got an oppurtunity to visit Kishore and Dipti , stayed there for one night and had expereience in travelling in Mumbai train.really its true that Mumbai locals are the nerves of Mumbai.

INSAC08 ended in a splendid manner and I took a taxi to Mumbai central railway station and had a glimpse of Siddhi Vinayak on the way to station. My Seat was confirmed at that time in Mumbai Delhi Rajdhani express.

The next morning (27thNov) was a terrible day for me.As i switched on my mobile , I had a sad message of sad demise of one of my Bhabhi ( Sada bhaina from my village) and 12 missed calls from my younger brother. When I called him, I got to know about the Mumbai attacks.

The terrorists fired at CST terminus, took over Taj, ho;ed up in Nariman house and trident and killed Mr hemant karkare and others .this was really sad and a direct attack to the country. I kept a eye on this the whole day.

The mumbai attacks left 100 crore Indians stuck to their TV sets as the fight continued for 3 more days.Over 200 killed, soldiers sacrificed their lives, people anger mounting on.This was perhaps for the first time people came all out against the so called politicians , blaming them for the attacks staright way. Enough is enough now. The soft stance of UPA on terrorirsm and loose talks of politicians and inefficiency of our home minister created a furore among aam aadmi and they came blaming all the way to the vote bank politics.

I cant find words to blame these politicians as I know that they can only bark like a dog and despite have the power to bite they cant do it as they cant leave their kursi and the so called vote bank.

Damn on them....

One solution:

I would rather die one day than die every day out of fear and anxiety.

Jai Hind..

Attack on Churches..

Completely media masala..attack on christians in Orissa,MP and now in Mangalore and the fire keeps spreading to other regions too..aah..innocent christians though..but the fact is that they are on a mission and if they wont be stopped I dont know what will be the fate of India. The evangelist christians and the terrorists muslims..they both grapple the nation. In one hand the christians took the backdoor to attack in the name of poverty and casteism and what not and the muslims openly blasting here and there.

Its only hindus who are at the receiving end always. We cant do much as we are victims of so called secularism.Alas..we could have been a state like Israel and USA and it would be better to die for one day rather dieing every day.

Swamiji's killing in Kandhamal orissa triggered the violence,it was natural .You cant fool the people always. When it hurts, they will definitely react.

The culprits should be brought to the book and punished..

Delhi bomb blast

what a nightmare...the blast just at the back of my office. At the 14th floor of Atmaram house I could hear the explosion. The first thought that got struck to my mind is the blast but no one believed.I switched on the TV to find out..yes its a blast and not a single blast but series of blasts rocked that day in Delhi.more than 30 people died and several injured but who cares. The ritual follows..we should unite at this time of grief, atankwad hame hila nahin sakte, ye desh ki chabi bigadne ki kosish hai..blame game on for the political parties ana many more.

Its really a sad part on behalf of we indians. We only project that we are coward and u can strike us anytime and anywhere and we let you off because we are a democratic country. The terrorists from Indian Mujahiddin..cowards and they do name their organisation as Indian..we should smoke them out like US did.Just show them when time comes , we can open our trinetra too.I dont have any words to condemn but somewhere at the heart of Indians they engulf fear and this is their win.

The UPA govt can not loose their votebank by acting upon the terrorists as all are from a same community.POTA can not be back as it would have been misused.what can we do then..simply watch and die someday.

I would rather die fighting with these so called terrorists rather falling prey to their misdeeds.

last days at NPTI

Its been approx 2 years now at NPTI and the reverse countdown has already begin ,no not to take off but to bid adieu from NPTI.I cherished these moments as i passed out this phase of my life.Thinking about the past,I could remember those spicy days at PIET where the role of a lecturer suited me for almost 4 years.Just at the time I needed a break from the clutch of well educated but disguished mentality persons,I found Thakur at the helm.A Mtech by reserch call from NIT,Rourkela, post of visiting faculty at IIPM and lots more but I choose to side with Thakur and decided to go to Hyderabad.A SAP course at hyderabad that to half finished and got a call from NPTI.Not knowing much about the college and particularly the power sector at first instant hestated to come for interview but the buttkicks of bBibhuti and insipirations of Thakur pushed me to board the train to Delhi.Train journey a nightmare as i lost my new pair of shoes and then I learnt that its a good sign and success awaiting somewhere.

When I landed at NPTI..wow..got surprised by the infrastructure first,at first it reminded me about the IITs and IIMs.How could a govt own set up be so neat and clean with green grasslawn spreading a to a larger area.I met one of the very nervous guy at mogging something for the interview and lots of questions in his mind.I offered my friendship and accepted.Though I landed here but never serious about the GD and interview (totally undecided about the future).Taking things light was my way of handling pressure ,u can say.Entering to the hall, seniors greeted us and there was a good presentation about the power sector .It is at this time I first introduced myself to the sphere of power, never worried about the frequent power cuts but always cursing the people behind the power cut, never knowing the complexity of the problem, why for these power cuts are there.

A group of streeful students thinking of the GD ahead and worried.I got tensed and came out of that streeful chamber outside for relaxing.I always prefered to be in a cool and calm area.My turn comes for the GD and I still remember the topic ,its about terrorism. My stand always a tough stand on these matters,I never looked at the othe otherside, killing, terrorising people was the worst kind of things to demand something I believe. My part was over though inside the discussion it was a complete chaos and a fish market as usual.so,never expected to get good marks on that, then just waited for my turn for the interview and at last the time came when I entered to the conference room for a chit chat.

Never sure about what kind of questions they gonna ask to me but pretty sure if they asked me about my work ex,I can explain them better but no question started and it was about MCB.The first reaction of my mind to this question is Maharashtra cricket board(I pl;ayed a lot of cricket so it came naturally)though i did not speak about it.sorry sir, dont know..a little bit of laugh from the other side..its natural because ppl should know at least the name miniature circuit board,I didnot. Then about the power sector, power sector reforms, capacity of generation in Orissa and a lot ,I was dumb socked and could not utter a single word.I mean neither I was prepared nor I am serious about the selection so i did not feel guilty..then they were fed up and at last asked me about my teaching experience. So ,which subjects

define and understand terrorism

Its not that only uneducated, unemployed youth caught in the net of terrorism.I think its the reverse way..its all in the mindset.its not about the photo that pakistani has in his pocket but its about the place osama has made into the heart of that pakistani who could be a dangerous threat to the society.who could guess similar story in the line of 9/11 happens through a person like him.beware!!!!!!

easy but not so.........

easy is to die for a cause but difficult is to live for it.

my 2 day trip to friends in delhi

it was a nice experience..
after my exams were over,i could get some days to visit my friends.
i went to rakesh at noida first discussed a lot about investment ,then at night i went to prabhat..after a long time we both took shower from the rain god,it was raining heavily and we were enjoying like anything.that was cool...we refreshed our memory of our old uce days over there.the next morning i went to prabeer and to my surprise i got so many friends over there.totally a odiya community was there at that day.we prepared traditional odiya cuisine(baigon poda, badi chura, pakhal bhata with dahi, chenachur, tamato chakada and what not)i enjoyed the food like anything.then at the evening we went to iskcon temple and danced to the tune to hare radha hare krishna.then we marched to jagannath temple at hauzkhas, there i met sudhansu bahi and some juniors of uce.the food served to us was awesome and a complete odiya hang out over there..a sort of picnic every day at prabhus mercy over there.i parted away from frends and went to thakurs residence at dwarka.we talked a lot that night about a whole lot of things.the next day morning we went to the market and took some digital photos for the insurance.at 3 pm i got back to my hostel..that was a nice experience for me i could find a lot of friends and what not...

bade dino ka baad..

friends..its been a long time i m writing today.
life is full of surprises..and it all happened to me.
got a place in pwc for summers..some cheers indeed.
went to tehri for our industrial visit,an wonderful experience.
haridwar mein ganga nahaye..rishikesh ghumke aaye..
everything was going all right and suddenly something happened.
the result of 1st sem was declared.
to my surprise i got a back paper.
i was quite surprised ..i did not know how to react.
while verifying i found that somehow my external marks were not added up.
and the npti was not at all concerned about the whole thing.
today only i got my detailed mark shhet and i found that i was marked absent in that paper.
i took the photocopy of my attendance sheet and a letter from the pd and going to the universityu tomorrow.
i know i have to suffer for the mistake of the university.
xams r there from 4th may ,but then its all part of the game because i know and i say..always expect some unexpected thing in life and march on,true in my case.
we r in india and dream of a error free india.
someday or the other it is going to happen..its only through changing the mindset of the people.
we dont have any problem ..the problem lies in our thinking process.
lets hope for the best.

watche guru with friends

yup the much talked movie of the town today
i watched this movie
fantastic one...really no harm in dreaming big.
getting the work done by hook or crook is the real strategic move now a days in this corporate arena.
the person with no mba a metric failed student started his journey from the village to turkey where he worked as a container provider for petroleum....gurukant desai.
came back home..needed money so married with a woman from where he could get the desired amount but in terms of dowry.
made the friend n brother in law a partner in his march to soar high.
played all the tricks to enter into the business with his sharp ideas and mind.
changed the track of the nation by going into silk import when everybody prefers to have khadi.
changed the rules of the game ,played with the law...made big money showing false profit by buying back his own shares.
converting the non convertible debentures into shares...going to public for raising funds...
an reporter from the independent caught him red handed and was successful in sealing all his factory by airing everything in his newspaper.
the share holders demanded money they lost and branded him the smuggler
suddenly he went to coma and lost one hand completely...
the judiciary bench enquired into the matters and found him guilty but at last he got 5 minutes and changed the way public thinks about him.by citing the fault of the system and the rich persons monopoly he could make them understand his view point and at last he could only give a fine of some lakhs of rupees for tax evasion..and his dream for going into various fields became a huge success..and at last he called for making the company the no1 in the world...there goes the theme..dream big and go and get it.
i saw no fault with him as he has taken the full advantage of the lacuna of the system and achieved what he has dreamt for..and in this dream his wife made a big contribution. he had immense faith with his partners and workers.
really a nice movie from my side i would rate this movie as must watchable with the songs of gulzar and music of rehman makes the perfect combination.
at last i enjoyed the movie ,this was my first movie at pvr in faridabad.

media should be hanged

what happened in wilson college is really very sad.to treat a professor in view 0f allegation is really bad, students must refrain from politicising the issue.this kind of stuffs only worsen the relationship between teacher and student.it should not be highlighted by the media in this way.the professor must be punished severely if the allegation is right.

tough times ahead

to leave the job in one go and undergoing study is not an easy task.i got call for interview from different places i have applied for.iter 4thjuly,fddi 8th,iipm10th like that.i culd not decide whether to go to noida for appering fddi interview.i think m tech at last waitin 4 me.its very difficult to forget mba but then i hope i will do fpm programme after my m tech.lets see, after serving the most valuable 3 years of my life at piet ,to leave it at one go is difficult,i feel nostalgic to leave my collegues,my friends at piet bringing me sleepless nights but...i have to look 4 future.our group shattered, myself, bhabani, pandey, tuna ,subhasish and sitya all r dislocated(take the true meaning),hope every one do well in future ,me also.bye

high voltage drama in piet on 19th june06

i dont know is it the fear of strictness in exam or r they really repentning for the heinious act of beating the dean,a meeting was called for so that the students of 8 ths semester to the faculty members.

i could not understand the purpose of such an meeting.every one was telling that they r not vindictive and they will not harass them in exam in view of their mis conduct. you take the exam as u r taking it previously withiout any fear.

we believe in principle of forgive and forget so beg public apology for the mistake u have done.

then starts the high voltage drama.some choosen members fron students community and fronm faculty side also started acting on the stage.

then comes gita from mr dean ,virtually scolding all for playing politics with him.
and thats all.

vadodra violence a nuisance on the part of muslims

it is irony that in india communal tension takes shape without cause.the demolition drive for a dargah started the communal tension in vadodra.the muslims while protesting against the municipality started pelting stones and attacking hindu shops near by.be it in aligarh, lucknow the communal tension started without any cause and that to it started by fanatics muslims.

its high time they should realise that in india they r safe and nowhere in the world this community is safe .they must come forward with tolerance and show their nationalist character or they will perish from this bharat with in no time.

massacre of hindus in doda and jammu and the young charismatic leader pramodji dies.

no news ,no condolence,no compensation for the hindus who have lost their life in terrorist attacks.the cong-pdp govt is busy providing the terrorista a healing touch and on he other hand it does not care about the hindus being killed over thre and fled away,

SHAME ON YOU CONGRESSI AND COMMUNISTS.

pramod mahajan dies after a 12 days battle with life.india loses a future prime minister and a real neta.i pay my tribute and condolence to those who killed in j&k and to promodji.

sapta mahayagna n virat hindu sammelan at chakapada, kandhamala

hari om
the rss(odisha wing) has organised a virat hindu samelan in chakapada starting its year long programe in view of the celebration of sri guruji janma satabdi.i was fortunate to witness this event.more than 400 converted christians were brought back to hindu fold with the tireless effort of swami akhandanad ji who had been associated with chakapada ashram for two decades.
the gathering was a huge one and 7 mahayagnas were organised namely gyana yagna(prabachan of sadus and sanyasis),dipa yagna, nama yagna etc.
on te concluding day a birat sabha was organised .on the dias present param pujaniya sudershanji, ashok singhalji, swami narayan panthas mahatma ji from gujarat, swami akhandanandaji and rss padadhikaris from odisa.in his boudhik sudershanji emphasised on the life of sri guruji touched every nook and corner of his life and asok ji singhal in his speech said that bharat mata today facing attacks from missionaries ,sonia and the communists.we have to defeat them, jagdeo oram ,rashtria adhyakha of vanvasi kalyan ashram urged the vanabasi bhais to come back to hindu fold and at last swami akhandanandji streesed about the hindu dharma.his prabachan was so lucid and clear so as to reach the masses he told directly with a emotional appeal to those converted and the vanabasi to fight for their dharma.he w3a s attacked 7 times by the christian gooonda s but somehow escaped from their attacks .he scolded the politicians like anything, stressing over several issues with examples from his own life he urged the people to come forward with lathi and weapons to protect dharma.

i saw prabhat bhai but unfortunately could not meet him.i saw and talked to barun banchor.
it was a cool area with mountains .christians and muslims bahut badhijaicchanti kintu swamiji nka prayas falare sethare bahut paribartan asichi.samajik samarsata ra se prakar sangam dekhi mu abhibhut hoi gali,no jati,no pratha only hindu samaj.

IS IT COINCIDENCE OR SOMEONE IS THERE WHO LISTENS TO YOU

Hey,is it a coincidence or what,I do not know.i was just surprised and could not believe for some time that she called me up.i was just thinking of her but due to some misunderstanding or my ego problem I did not want to call her or mail her but to my surprise she rang me up 4 times and alas.. I could not receive her call because my cell was not with me at that time(another surprise…generally wherever I go,I take my cell with me).and yaah I even removed her number from my cell so I was just wondering who might be this fellow,so by surprise when I called back the no, a sweet voice greeting me from the other side but how could I remember.i did not recognize her..it’s a long long time we had conversions with each other.at last she was to tell me her name,I was just taken by surprise and kept mum for a little while, then the talk began.

Generally what to talk,no such things we can share and I don’t know why she tried to talk to me may be she has some reason or other,I am not sure.it all went like this ..about frendz, their marriage, and about the city.i was just surprised to listen thjat the city where she was staying was not safe.i asked feeling lonely with no one to share ur feelings was too tough then this was the reality.she just wanted to listen from me..,I don’t know what exactly.

90/10 PRINCIPLE

Discover the 90/10 Principle. It will change your life (at least the
way you react to situations).

What is this principle?

10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided
by how you react. What does this mean?

We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us.

We cannot stop the car from breaking down.

The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off.

A driver may cut us off in traffic.

We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You
determine the other 90%. How?

By your reaction. You cannot control a red light., but you can control
your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example.

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a
cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what
just what happened. What happens when the next will be determined by how you react.
You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over.
She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse
and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the
table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change
your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy
crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the
bus. Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car
and drive your daughter to school.
Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit.
After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive
at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye.
After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase.
Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse
and worse. You look forward to coming home, When you arrive home, you
find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why?

Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?

B) Did your daughter cause it?

C) Did the policeman cause it?

D) Did you cause it?

The answer is " D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted
in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have
and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently
say, "It's ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next time".
Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your
briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and
see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5
minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how
good the day you are having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why? Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other
90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle.

If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge. Let
the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the
negative comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your
day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired,
getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic?
Do you lose your temper? Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine
had the steering wheel fall off)

Do you curse?

Does your blood pressure skyrocket?

Do you try and bump them?

WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars
ruin your drive?

Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.

You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep and get irritated? It
will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job.

The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why
take out your frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control
over what is going on. Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger.
Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse.

Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at
the results. You will lose nothing if you try it.

The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.
The result?

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials,
problems and heartache. There never seem to be a success in life.

Bad days follow bad days.

Terrible things seem to be constantly happening. There is constant
stress, lack of joy, and broken relationships. Worry consumes time.
Anger breaks friendships and life seems dreary and is not enjoyed to the fullest.
Friends are lost. Life is a bore and often seems cruel.

Does this describe you? If so, do not be discouraged..

You can be different!

Understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life.........!!!!!!!

resoulution of rss akhil bharatiya karyakari mandal

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution-1 (21.10.05) Cast rivalry and Social Harmony

The Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (ABKM) expresses deep
concern over the increasing incidents of caste rivalry in the Hindu
Society. The ABKM appeals that the core message of 'Samarasata'
(social harmony) - 'Hindavah sodarah sarve' (All Hindus are
brothers and sisters) should be spread in all sections of the
society.
Caste based untouchability and feeling of so called 'high caste'
and 'low caste' are evils haunting our society. Unfortunately such
incidents occur in society even to this day manifesting the worst
form of caste discrimination. Hindu society will have to get rid of
this evil at the earliest.
Inventing caste based new conflicts in the Hindu society for the
sake of political benefits has become a trend of many politicians
these days. Treacherous elements are also joining hands in this.
To create the vote banks, these politicians are encouraging
caste-based rivalries, which result in creation of various caste
based clashes.
The ABKM appeals to all political parties to free themselves from
the clutches of caste based politics, which is causing deep
divisions in the society, and give an orientation of eternal
Bharatiya Sanskriti to Indian democracy. Bharatiya Sanskriti is the
deciding force to achieve 'Samarasata'.
All Dharmacharyas have given the ruling that untouchability has
no place in Hindu Dharma. In view of this, the honour to carry
out he foundation stone laying ceremony of Ramjanmabhoomi was
bestowed on a person belonging to Scheduled classes, and
Saints visited the house of 'dome Raja' to partake of food. The
visit of the Saints to 'Dikshabhumi' at Nagpur and garlanding the
statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar is a path breaking incident. In
the Kala Ram temple of Nasik, the priest of the temple, whose
forefathers had opposed entry of Dr. Ambedkar and his followers
into the temple, invited the brothers of those castes, which at
one time used to be called untouchables, to perform a 'Yagnya',
thus setting an example of atonement. Such examples
underscore the glory of positive efforts. It is necessary that
sustained efforts should continue in this direction to successfully
eradicate the evil of untouchability and feeling of 'high' and
'low' castes.
'Ekam sat viprah Bahudha vadanti' (Truth is one; wise men
describe it in various ways) is the basic vision on the basis of which
various religious sects are equally honoured in the Hindutva
stream. No religion or sect is inferior to others. The whole society
should be aware that every sect and caste of Bharat has a
glorious history. The ABKM appeals to all sects and castes that they
should not look down on other sects and castes. The entire
society should fully realize the essence of 'Na Hinduh Patito Bhavet'
(No Hindu shall ever be fallen).
The ABKM appeals to the Hindu society that it should take all the
necessary measures to ensure entry and access to every
Hindu, irrespective of his caste, to their homes, temples,
religious places, public wells, ponds, and other public places.
ABKM appeals to the society in general and swayamsevaks in
particular that, in the birth centenary year of shri Guruji, The
ongoing efforts should be intensified to achieve the noble aim of
'Samarasata'.

Resolution-2 (22.10.05) Kashmir Initiative

The Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (ABKM) calls for caution,
commitment and restraint in the Kashmir Initiative of the
Government of Bharat. We cannot overlook the fact that in the
last 6 decades of independence we have witnessed gradual
shrinking of our borders. Our neighbours had encroached upon over
one lac sq kms of our land with impunity.
The ABKM wants to remind people that continuing terrorist
violence in J&K and unabated infiltration across the borders despite
the peace process puts serious question mark on the sincerity of
the Pakistan dispensation. These acts of terrorism continuing
under worst human suffering due to earthquake underscore the
brutality and viciousness of these perpetrators from across the
border.
The ABKM views the decision to pull back our troops from Siachen
region as unwise and uncalledfor. That control over Siachen is
crucial to our strategic requirements is well known.
The ABKM is concerned over various proposals floating around in
the name of the Kashmir Initiative. There are apprehensions
that after Siachen, Bharat will be asked to de-militarize
Baramullah and Kupwara districts in the Valley; there is talk of greater

autonomy; there are also proposal for open borders and joint
administration. We consider all these proposals as against the
interests and integrity of our country. The ABKM, strongly
condemns the Government's permission to the Hurriyat leaders to cross
over to Pakistan and have confabulations with Pakistani leaders.
This imprudent action on the part of the Government is
tantamount to conceding Pakistan a role in the matters that fall
within our domain only. It is unfortunate that due to such actions
of the Government the much publicised Kashmir Initiative has
shifted the focus away from Pak occupied Kashmir to the Indian
state of J&K.
The ABKM wants to remind our government about the 1994 resolution
of our Parliament in which the country unanimously and
categorically reiterated that the only issue between Bharat and
Pakistan is in relation to when and how Pakistan vacates that part
of J&K which is in its illegal occupation for long. The ABKM
expects the Government to stand firmly against any international
pressure.
The ABKM warns the government that the people of our country will
not tolerate any compromise on the issue of our territorial
integrity and defense of our borders in the name of peace
process.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution-3 (23.10.05) Separatism in North-East

The Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (ABKM) expresses deep
concern over the violent separatist activities being conducted
under the garb of 'Greater Nagaland (or Nagalim) movement'.
The demand to include some districts of Manipur in Greater
Nagaland, will put the very existence of already tiny Manipur in
jeopardy. The resistance of the people of Manipur to that demand
is quite natural and justified. The act of seperatist outfits to
impose economic blockade on the people of Manipur for 52 days in
last July-August is totally deplorable. It is unfortunate that the
administration remained indifferent towards this blockade,
consequently encouraging the separatist terrorist outfits.
Greater Nagaland movement is also raising the demand to include
the Hindu majority Karbianglong and N.C. Hills (North Kachar
Hill district) districts of Assam in its orbit. The Karbi and
Dimasa tribes of these districts which cohabit peacefully there have
opposed this demand. The separatist forces are conspiring to
create conflicts between these tribes to achieve their nefarious
plan. Due to these instigated conflicts, hundreds of people of
both Karbi and Dimasa tribes have lost their lives, many villages
have been burntdown, and more than 70,000 people have been
displaced. The entire Hindu society should become aware of
this Church conspiracy to instigate conflicts among the Hindu
tribes and come forward to help our victimized and displaced
brethren.
An intensified movement of conversion to Christianity is going on
in the districts of Tirap and Changlang of Arunachal Pradesh
with the same aim of including these districts in the proposed
Greater Nagaland. The innocent tribal people of these districts are
being lured as well as threatened for the purpose. This should be
immediately checked.
The hideous face of separatist Church-inspired two nation theory
behind the demand of creating greater Nagaland by dividing
the above three states of the North-East is expossed. It is the
constitutional and democratic duty of the administration and
political leadership, that they should initiate moves to defeat
the communal separatist forces and protect national integrity of
Bharat. The ABKM appeals to the society to unite against the
separatist elements and their foreign supporting powers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution-4 (23.10.05) End Minorityism

The Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (ABKM) decries the return of
the demon of minority appeasement under the present UPA
government.
Its earlier decision to provide 50% reservation for Muslims in
Aligarh Muslim University and its attempts now to go in appeal
against the HC order on the minority status of the Aligarh Muslim
University is a standing proof of its appeasement policy. One of
its senior ministers crosses all limits of crass minority
appeasement and publicly lures Muslims with the offer of Chief
Ministership
against all democratic norms and spirit of the Constitution. Yet
he continues to be an honourable member of the UPA cabinet.
Also reprehensible is the reported directive given to all the
Chief Ministers of the Congress-ruled states to emulate Andhra
Pradesh government in extending reservations to Muslims.
Creation of Minority Education Commission, special subsidies for
Muslim students preparing for the UPSC and other competitive
exams, setting up of a commission to look into the question of
granting reservations to all converted SCs. further fortify the
allegation of minority-pandering of this government. Reports
indicate that the government is actively considering setting up a
Ministry for Minority Welfare, special recruitment drive for
Muslims in Army, setting up Islamic banking etc.
The ABKM notes with regret that, with exceptions, there is a race
among political parties to appease minorities in different shapes
and forms. For electoral benefits politicians are competing with
each other to pronounce special benefits for minorities like
reservations etc.
This competitive minorityism is the reason behind the total
inaction of the UP government in Mau where Muslim goons butchered
Hindus allegedly at the behest of the local Muslim MLA. The ABKM
strongly condemns the callous attitude of the UP
government in protecting the lives and property of Hindus. It is
shocking that no proper enquiry has been instituted to look into
the causes of the violence and identify and punish the
perpetrators of the same.
While the judiciary has, from time to time, tried to caution the
government about the perils of minority appeasement, the ABKM
regrets to note that the merchants of minorityism are busy
inventing ways and means to bypass all such observations and
advices by the judiciary.
The ABKM warns the government that encouraging minorityism will
only generate unrest in the society by way of reaction. We
call upon the government to honour the verdicts of the courts in
letter and spirit failing in which would prove costly to the unity and
integrity of our country.

NATWAR SINGH AND THE OIL FOR FOOD SCAM

The international media has highlighted the Independent Inquiry Committee Report led by Paul Volcker, former head of the U.S. Federal Reserve, on corruption related to the United Nations Oil for Food Program in Iraq. The report named several "non-contractual beneficiaries" that included India's ruling Congress Party and its Minister of External Affairs, Mr. Natwar Singh. The charges are serious. Australia, Russia, South Africa and Switzerland had promptly launched commissions of inquiry to investigate the alleged financial indiscretion of companies and individuals domiciled in their countries. India will need to do likewise. The Government of India has called for the UN to fully disclose the materials upon which the Volcker report had based its conclusions. This is a fair request but not sufficient. Natwar Singh will need to step down until such time that his name is cleared.

A lot is at stake here. While Natwar Singh is innocent until proven guilty, he holds high office and is therefore held to higher standards than ordinary citizens. Accountability and national security are of essence here. The integrity of Indian foreign policy might well have been undermined by Saddam's "dirty money". As an opposition legislator and shadow foreign minister, Natwar had played a key role in the parliamentary resolution in New Delhi in 2003 that condemned the U.S. invasion of Iraq. With the benefit of hindsight, one now wonders whether Natwar Singh had India's best interests in mind or whether he had been bought over. As a possible recipient of Saddam's illicit largess, he might have compromised national interests and might have allowed himself to be used as a lobbyist for Iraq irrespective of whether this was in India's interest or not. Natwar Singh represents India on the world stage and if media reports stand true, might have once derived financial benefits from a foreign dictator. A person indicted in a United Nations report can not uphold India's interests in the international arena with credibility. India aspires to be a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. This entails certain obligations. The least the Government can do is to transfer him out of his job until the issue is clarified.

Natwar Singh represents the politics of international appeasement. Media reports in 2004 suggested that he had pushed for India to accede to the Chinese annexation of Aksai Chin in 1957 in return for China's recognition that Arunachal Pradesh belonged to India. He denied the reports in the face of strident BJP criticism. In August, 2005, Natwar Singh had opposed western efforts to mobilize international opinion against Iran's nuclear program. The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear technology, is not in India's interest given the links between Iran and international terrorism. In October, 2005, Natwar failed to take action against Pakistani sponsorship of terrorism in Kashmir. He instead went beyond the call of duty to initiate efforts to open the line of control in Kashmir to international relief efforts despite the escalation of terrorism with the Kashmir earthquake and to organize an unprecedented US$ 25 million relief package for Pakistan. Unconfirmed reports in 2004 had it that Natwar Singh had argued that India accept the line of control in Kashmir as the legal international border in exchange for a peace accord with Pakistan. The reported deal had allegedly entailed India moving its troops back a few miles in Kargil. While the Manmohan Singh administration denied the reports, the possibility that policy-makers might compromise national interest in return for financial benefit is indeed worrying.

Natwar had earlier vigorously opposed the invasion of Iraq which I had assumed was on principle. I now have my doubts. I question his judgement and financial probity. The least the Government can do is to remove him from his position until the investigation is completed. India, a country of 1.25 million square miles, a population of 1,100 million and with one of the largest economies in the world, can not be represented on the world stage by an outdated ideologue whose policies now stand under the shadow of possible financial misdemeanor.
